Jayme-ized Plink Rules for J-Lympics on July 26, 2024

Overview

Note: We all have good sportsmanship.

Plink is a card game for two or more players but works best with multiple players. It is played like solitaire, with each player in command of his or her own deck of cards, but all building piles are shared between all players. To win, you will need fast hands, quick thinking, and more than a little luck.

Definitions:

Building piles: all players can play their cards in the middle section where they can build the piles starting with the ace of each suit.

Plink: Player who runs out of pile of 13 by playing on own layout or in building pile in middle yells “Plink” Stock: Cards not in Plink pile or 4 card pile

Set up

Jayme-ized variation: Goal: Play all 13 cards in Plink pile.

Senior Perk: Seniors can double up at any level.

Each player must shuffle his or her deck then pass the shuffled deck to the player on your left.

Layout of cards is in 5 piles: The first pile is made by counting out 13 cards from the top of the deck in one pile and laying them face up, the next 4 piles are single cards face up and laid out as in double solitaire in the same order as they were in the deck. Each player 's layout will look like this:

The remaining cards will be used for stock. Then the scorekeeper will say “Ready..Go” and play will begin.

How to Play

Play is like double solitaire. Aces may be placed in the field in the middle of the table space bound by all players’ layout to start to build piles. Building on a build pile means placing the next higher card in rank of the same suit on top of the top card of the pile. So if the build pile’s top card is a 4 of hearts, only a 5 of hearts may be played on it. Within a player’s four piles, the top cards may be built upon in descending order, alternating red-black-red-black. When all face-up cards have been removed from one of the four piles, a card from the Plink pile can replace one of the four piles.

Unlike double solitaire, count of their stock is in threes and turning over face up. You can tell that you are doing it right, by “flip-flip-flip-thump”. When the stock is all face up, pick it up and start again. In each hand of Plink, the object is to get rid of your Plink pile.

Plink cards can be removed from the pile, three ways, playing them on build piles and filling empty spaces in the 4 piles or playing on cards on other cards on the 4 piles. When a player has removed the final card from his Plink pile, he says “Plink” and play immediately stops.

Special Rules:

If a build pile goes all the way up to king, the player who played the king on the pile must say “Stop” and remove the pile from play. When the pile has been removed and everybody is ready again, the scorekeeper will signal to continue play.

Players may use both hands for building, either on build piles or the player’s four piles, at the same time.

Plink is generally a silent game during actual gameplay. No player may intentionally vocally distract other players. This includes muttering to yourself.

If all players agree that they cannot build with their current configuration of cards, then play will stop, and each player will pull the bottom face-down card from their stock. Any player without any remaining stock cards, just has to wait.

Two players making the same play for a building pile stock, the card which hits the pile first gets it. Other player takes the card back.

Scoring

All players who did not “Plink” will

-count the remaining cards in their Plink pile.

-Double that number. -

-That number will be subtracted from cards placed in the building pile.

-All cards in the building pile are separated by card design. Each player notes their card design, counts the cards in the building pile, then subtracts that number from the double number of the Plink pile.

Example: 10 cards in the Plink pile. Doubled that is 20. Cards from the middle in the building pile total 7. 20-7= The player’s score for this player is minus 13. Another example, cards from the middle in the building pile total 30. 30-20 is plus 10.

After a certain number of plays, the player with highest positive number Is winner.
